Kenwyne Jones transfer on hold?
The reported transfer of Trinidad and Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones by Sunderland may just be on
hold. Jones has been out of favour with manager Steve Bruce because of his recent under-performance
and reports are that he will be sold. Stoke City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and
Manchester United have indicated interest. The Sunderland Echo reports: Sunderland boss Steve Bruce does not expect to make sweeping changes to his squad during the January transfer window. And today he ruled out any interest in right-back Danny Simpson – on loan at Newcastle from Manchester United – and Coventry keeper Keiren Westwood.
Bruce said: “I’m looking, but I won’t be buying for the sake of it. If the right players are available at the right price, then we will have a go, but I would not expect to be overly busy.”
Bruce said Hibs have made an inquiry for defender Russell Anderson.
The Sunderland boss, who had nine players injured for Monday’s 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw at Blackburn, does not expect any of those players to be fit for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Barrow.
