Four TT players in WI squad

Shock omission of Lendl Simmons but Barath gets his break. Tough Australian tour begins in the next two weeks

The selectors could not leave out teenaged batting sensation Adrian Barath but there was no room for his Trinidad and Tobago teammates, Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo-both of whom are quality batsmen.

Trinidad and Tobago, however, got three other picks – Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin and Ravi Rampaul- in the squad to tour Australia which was announced yesterday.

The full squad: Chris Gayle (captain), Adrian Barath, Dwayne Bravo, Narsingh Deonarine, Denesh Ramdin, Travis Dowling, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Darren Sammy, Jerome Taylor, Brendan Nash, Kemar Roach, Gavin Tonge, Ravi Rampaul and Suleiman Benn..

The argument over the captaincy slot –Gayle or Daren Ganga, who captained the West Indies team on the English tour two years ago when Sarwan was injured – was finally settled with Ganga not even being included in the squad.

Three test tour of Australia will begin around the middle of November with two warm-up matches.
