TT cricketers face stiff challenge in Super Eights tomorrow

Trinidad and Tobago opponents are New South Wales in the Super Eights tomorrow. With cricketers like Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Nathan Hauritz, Stuart Clark, David Warner, Phillip Hughes and Doug Bollinger it is like playing against Australia.

Trinidad and Tobago will face, probably, its stiffest challenge when they play the formidable New South Wales tomorrow in the Super Eight stage of the US$6 million IPL Champions League Twenty 20 tournament at Hyderabad.

New South Wales are one of the stronger teams with players like Brett Lee, Stuart Clark, Nathan Hauritz, Phillip Hughes, Doug Bollinger, Simon Katich, Moises Henriques and David Warner. It’s like coming up against a virtual Australian lineup, particularly, the bowling attack.

However, Trinidad and Tobago have won the respect of Indian fans and have emerged as outsiders to take the tournament’s US$2.5 million first prize.

The Trinis have the advantage of taking two points to this group stage, according to the rules, having defeated Somerset who are also in this group. The other team are the Eagles.

On Wednesday, Daren Ganga’s men upset the form book by defeating the IPL champions Deccan Chargers by three runs in a thrilling last ball finish.

Ganga sent notice to their opponents that Trinidad and Tobago are an improving team and are yet to hit top form.
