Soca Warriors leave for Honduras

Trinidad and Tobago must get at least one point in Honduras. It will be Dwight Yorke’s final international match for his country in an eventful 20 years of over official international matches and friendlies.

Each of the four remaining 2010 World Cup qualifiers is critical for the Soca Warriors.

Saturday’s game in Tegucigalpa against a buoyant Honduran team, who defeated leaders, Costa Rica 4-0 earlier this month, will be every bit as do or die as any of the other matches.

Trinidad and Tobago, still languishing at the bottom of the table with five points, must get at least one point from this away from home fixture.

The Tntinsider learned that an 11-man squad left for a training base at San Pedro Sula, Honduras, this morning. The squad will be joined by 11 foreign-based players, including defender Jloyd Samuel of Bolton.

The match is expected to be Dwight Yorke’s international swan-song. Yorke, who will be 38 on November 3, is expected to assist Russell Latapy as a coach. In 69 official international matches for Trinidad and Tobago since 1989 he has scored 26 goals, the last being a penalty in the first match against El Salvador, earlier this year, which ended in a 2-2 draw. He has appeared altogether in over 100 international matches and has scored 41 goals.

He has scored 97 goals for Aston Villa, his first English Premier League team, for which he appeared some 231 times.

In 188 appearances for Manchester United, he scored 64 goals.

Yorke has also played for English Premier League teams Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and Sunderland. He appeared for Sydney F.C. in Australia for one season.

Since being discharged from Sunderland, earlier this year, he has not gotten a contract with any football team.
