Minority Leader Ashworth Jack is the latest to add his voice
to the Calder Hart issue.
Jack was at the time speaking with the media at his bi-monthly
media briefing at his Scarborough Mall Office on Tuesday. Jack
also expressed concern over the fact that Shanghai
Construction was engaged in the construction of a church even
though they have an arrangement with the Government.
“We would like to know when was Shanghai Construction
registered in Trinidad and Tobago?” Jack questioned. He also
wants to know if there have been tax returns filed by the
company.
The Minority Leader also questioned why the Prime Minister did
not deal with the initial information presented, which linked
Calder Hart to CH Development.
Jack told the media that he supported the call for a forensic
audit of UDeCOTT and made reference to a number of Tobago
special purpose companies, which he believed should be brought
into the accounting procedures of the Tobago House of
Assembly.
“If people are to save themselves from themselves, then we
need to be able to have all these companies accountable to the
public,” Jack said.
In response to the call by Opposition Leader Kamla
Persad-Bissessar’s for a halt to all UDeCOTT projects and the
resignation of the board, Jack said that this would not affect
Tobago since most of the UDeCOTT projects in Tobago have
already ground to a halt.
“I think what needs to be done is that the issue of the
forensic audit needs to be done post haste to ensure that
everything is done above board,” Jack continued.
