Legal Affairs Minister Peter Taylor...fat talk in Parliament

Businessmen live off the fat of the land claims the Minister of Legal Affairs. They, of course, also finance the ruling party’s political campaigns.

Are well-to-do and wealthy citizens really living off the fat of Trinidad and Tobago?

More fat talk from Johnny-come-lately politician Peter Taylor who compounded his unfortunate statement which he made during the Property Tax debate last month by stating yesterday in the House of Representatives that he was not referring to the majority of homeowners but specifically to “business owners.”

Of course, while he claimed that they were paying peppercorn rates, these same businessmen, some of whom pump money into the People’s National Movement (PNM), also happen to pay income tax, corporation tax, N.I.S, Green Fund tax, import duties, health surcharge, commercial and industrial rates for electricity, water and telephones etc.

They also sponsor sports, cultural, community events and give to charities and for the most part try to be good corporate citizens.

And, oh, Mr Taylor these parasites also provide jobs.

Thankfully, one only hears from Mr Taylor, who is Minister of Legal Affairs, at least, once annually.

Meanwhile, Parliament will be prorougued at midnight today and the new session will open at 10a.m. on Wednesday with pomp and splendour.

The President is expected to address both houses of Parliament at the opening.
