Property tax propaganda campaign
1,000 per cent increase in property tax is no big thing. A ridiculous couple pushes Government’s fiscal measure on radio and television.
The Government has begun its Property Tax propaganda campaign with ads in the electronic media.
A less than convincing couple discusses the controversial measure trying to put a spin to make the proposed one thousand per cent increase in the tax sound reasonable.
It is a hilarious attempt to make the unreasonable appear an act of patriotism- presumably, all the way to the poor house if not the St Anns Hospital..
There also appears to be a lot of confusion in cabinet on the matter: the lady Minister of Finance is insisting that the matter is cast in concrete and would yield $250 million. No, make that $750 million annually, she says.
Someone else says it is really $375 million annually and the Junior Minister of Finance says that the size of the tax could be change after discussion and debate.
What is facing the Government if it implements the tax in the current form is the prospect of a resounding defeat at the Local Government polls next year.
All sections of the national community have expressed strong disagreement and outrage at this unpopular measure which was announced in the Budget one month ago.
