Kamla racks up support

Kamla’s star ascends but the old demagogue just won’t give up. He is surely going out an awful way.
Basdeo Panday insists that he is going nowhere-even as the House of the Rising Sun that he built is becoming deserted and he is facing eviction.
He is not going to form another party as he did over 20 years ago when he left the National Alliance for Reconstruction after his spat with ANR Robinson.
His former loyalists are signing up to have Kamla Persad-Bissessar replace him as Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives. His constituency executive, headed by Chaguanas Deputy Mayor Orlando Nagessar, have resigned.
By this time next week, he will. Most likely, be informed by the President that his plum parliamentary post has been taken away from him.
Kamla has confidently announced that she would be receiving support from a majority of Opposition members- and this is not surprising since there appears to be a tidal wave of national support after her comprehensive defeat of the UNC maximum leader.
Mr Panday has been anything but a gracious loser: he and his minions tried to convince the public that Kamla had stolen the elections although the party he led was responsible for the conduct of the said internal elections.
He had to face a further setback of having a motion for a public enquiry into the elections rejected and for good reason since the new executive has already promised to conduct an internal probe.
Misstep after misstep. Reviled in public by his former adoring party members. Badly beaten in the internal elections in his own Couva North stronghold.
Why can’t he realise that it is time to throw in the towel and go out nobly in the night?
