Max keeps low profile

He will soon  be sending his new list of apointees to Basdeo

Panday.

Let’s hope the Opposition Leader doesn’t misplace this letter.

Max Richards continues to keep a low profile. But the heat has been taken off him somewhat with the new controversy over the resignation of Attorney Gnereal Brigid Annisette-George and the appointment of the controversial John Jeremie.

The President was briefly in action in Tuesday appointing two temporary opposition senators on Tuesday and on Friday he will appoint Jeremie.

In the fast-paced world of public affairs, Richards’ missteps have gone on the backburner as the country focuses on the AG affair.

Richards evaded the press when he returned on Monday afternoon and is said to have held his normal meeting with Prime Minister Patrick Manning otherwise he has not been seen in public but is expected to attend an Indian Arrival Day function this weekend.

He will be trying to fill the vacancies created by his disastrous selection of five Integrity Commission members on May 1.

His detractors are dissatisfied with his press statement which he issued two weeks ago while on vacation and want an explanation regarding his appointments and refusals to break his vacation and return home.

There have been accusations of his bringing the Presidency into disrepute and calls for his resignation.

Richards has said nothing.

He will have to write the Opposition Leader to give his views about the new appointments. Hopefully, Basdeo Panday, one of his fiercest critics, will not replace that letter as he did the previous one.

There have been calls for consultations with non Government organisations and while there may be some merit in such suggestions, it could possibly lead to a long drawn out if not acrimonious process.
