4.4 earthquake shakes Trinidad

Residents of Arima, in East Trinidad, reported feeling a slight
shaking last night shortly after 10pm local time.


The US Geological Survey confirmed the occurrence a light earthquake
at 10:03pm, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale. The preliminary report
placed epicentre at 10.447°N, 61.181°W – 40 km east-south-east of Port of Spain, at a depth of 67.3km.

This earthquake follows two lighter tremors last week which occurred
approximately 120km east-north-east of Port of Spain, off the
Venezuelan coast and were reportedly felt in parts of northern
Trinidad including Diego Martin and Maraval.

There were no reports of damage or injury as a result of last night’s quake.
