ELECTION DATE ANNOUNCEMENT TONIGHT?

Big Monday night as the PNM kicks off its campaign in St.Augustine and the UNC in Marabella. Will the election date be announced?

Will Prime Minister Patrick Manning announce the election date tonight in one of the Opposition prized constituencies, St Augustine?

The People’s National Movement (PNM) will launch its 2010 general election campaign at the St Augustine Hi-Lo car park beginning 7’o’clock and the United National Congress (UNC) will simultaneously launch its campaign at the Gopaul Lands Shopping Complex, Marabella.

While there will expectations of an election date, UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is expected to make revelations that would have been part of her no confidence motion address in Parliament. He has already given notice that she is not intimidated by Prime Minister Manning’s threats of possible legal action for slander.

The PNM had a mobilisation meeting on Sunday involving constituency executives and other officials and candidates who have already been successfully screened will be presented.

Congress of the People (COP) political leader Winston Dookeran will appear at tonight’s meeting but estranged UNC heavyweights Ramesh Lawrence-Maharaj, Basdeo Panday and Kelvin Ramnath will not be present.

There is still unrest and uneasiness in the Opposition camp. Ramesh has already boldly announced himself as candidate for Tabaquite he has not been selected by the party with former COP candidate Anand Ramlogan being favoured.

While unity talks are going on, some COP frontline figures such as Devant Maharaj are running back to the UNC and Panday appears to be sidelined.
