Obama coming for CHOGM?
The US President was invited to attend the meeting by Prime Minister Patrick Manning. Manning could not say whether the US President has accepted his invitation.
United States President Barack Obama surely isn’t attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government conference (CHOGM).
Prime Minister Patrick Manning told the press yesterday that he had invited President Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen of Denmark were invited because they could contribute , meaningfully, to the discussions on climate change.
He could not say whether President Obama, who attended the Fifth Summit of the Americas held here in April, had accepted his invitation, and will be present at the three-day conference which opens in a matter of hours. There certainly has been no announcement on the matter by the White House.
It could not be ascertained whether President Sarkozy, who has been leading the climate change debate in Europe and the Danish Prime Minister will be here.
Some 40 heads of states of Commonwealth member countries, including President Jacob Zuma of South Africa and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will attend the conference which will open tomorrow morning with an address by Queen Elizabeth 11, head of the Commonwealth.
President Manmohan Singh this week held discussions with President Obama in Washington during an official State visit.
