Sorry,the fat lady doesn’t sing

The lady in a heavily padded body suit, had no trouble convincing the audience that Carnival costumes should contain more cloth. This was part of the action at the Carnival Comedy Picnic Fest, which took place at the Trinidad Country Club, Maraval, recently.
Carnival Comedy shows, which offer a mixture of stand-up comedy and comical Kaiso, have become an important part of the entertainment on offer during Trinidad’s Carnival, and often extends beyond the season with several shows scheduled for the Lenten season.
At the “Picnic Fest,” patrons spread blankets on the Country Club’s well-lit lawns and enjoyed comic veterans Shirley “Beulah” King, Clifford Learmond, Tommy Joseph, MC “Sprangalang,” and others.
However, a chilly night-time breeze that blew down the Maraval Valley caused some patrons to wrap up in their blankets, while others either gathered around the corn soup pot or warmed up by heckling the newcomers whose acts did not generate laughter.
